Skills & proficiencies

I have extensive experience using a wide range of applications and web technologies.

Front end web development languages
Languages used in recent projects:
HTML, CSS (inc. SASS & Compass), javascript (vanilla & jQuery), Thymeleaf & PHP

I am highly proficient in HTML and CSS, both hand-coding and using pre-processors such as SASS & Compass. I have extensive experience using javascript (vanilla and jQuery) to add animation, interactive features and AJAX where necessary. You can see a selection of the websites I have developed in the websites section of this portfolio.

WordPress
I am comfortable developing static websites using HTML, CSS and javascript, but I have also worked with content management systems, most notably WordPress. I have developed and maintained a large number of websites using WordPress, a selection of which can be seen here.

Adobe Photoshop
I use Photoshop on a daily basis for a wide range of tasks including designing promotional material, creating artwork and optimising photos and graphics for web. At both Spiral and FRONT, I was required to create and use complex actions to batch process large numbers of images for online galleries, promotional materials and shop catalogues. I also have experience cutting backgrounds out of images, creating animated web banners and retouching photos.

Video editing (Adobe Premiere / After Effects & Final Cut Pro)
Having worked on dozens of video projects for various clients, I have experience using a wide range of video applications, including Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere. I am proficient in video editing, colour and light level correction, video animations and title effects.

Web analytics
In my role at FRONT magazine, I had sole responsibility for reporting on all web-related activity, including web traffic, social media campaign effectiveness and monthly shop sales. Reporting to a creative team, I was tasked with translating raw data into valuable insights and then acting on this information to improve the company’s online strategy.
